About Siyanda Bakgatla Platinum Mine

Siyanda Bakgatla Platinum Mine (Pty) Ltd is a Platinum Producing Mine based in Swartklip, in the Province of Limpopo, the Republic of South Africa specifically known as Union Mine.

They also produce Palladium, Rhodium, Gold and Chrome as by-products.  The Mine was acquired from Anglo American Platinum effective from the 1st of February 2018 by Siyanda Resources and the Bakgatla-Ba-Kgafela Joint Venture.

The Mine has an estimated life of 17 Years and employ about 5200 Full Time Employees.

They sell their PGM through an Offtake agreement with Anglo American Platinum’s Rustenburg Platinum Mines.  Their Chrome is extracted from the tails by the sister company, Masa Chrome.

Mechanical Engineering Bursary

Purpose of Role

Siyanda Bakgatla Platinum Mine is offering bursary opportunity to high performing and financially needy students who are currently in Grade 12, 1st year, 2nd year and 3rd year of study. The bursary opportunity is open for South African students who are accepted or registered for an undergraduate qualification at an accredited university.

Work of Role

  • Adhere to company’s terms and conditions of the student bursary agreement and fixed-term employment contract
  • Ensure consistent high academic and on-the-job performance
  • Pass at least 60% average of all subjects / modules to secure continuation of financial assistance in the following academic year’ semester
  • Take full ownership of their learning
  • Initiate on-the-job development discussions and seek feedback from supervisor or coach
  • Complete assigned projects on time

Qualifications

  • 60% Average on Grade 12 results
  • 60% average in 1st, 2nd or 3rd year of study in Mechanical Engineering
